The ninth pass came and went without incident. The only Weyr left was Benden. It was alone in having to defend the whole of Pern. And they were stretched thin. It was a great relief when Lessa brought forward the Weyrs of the past. Southern Weyr was founded. The white dragon Ruth was born and Impressed to hte Lord holder Jaxom. But AIVAS was never found. The ninth pass went in to the ninth interval without incident.
During the one hundred Turn Interval, our heroes of the past moved on and new heroes were born. A new territory was explored to the far west of the Southern Continent by the young son of a Lord Holder. He was an ambitious sort and he liked what he saw. The land was lush and green and full of life. Plants and animals yet untouched by humans. Or at least, primarily. Here they first rediscovered the dolphins and their abilities. They would become truly important as Illuay Hold was first being built.
It was because of the stubborn younger son of a Lord Holder from the North that Illuay and the lands around it would be discovered and populated. They had no support from the Weyrs at that time. They had no support from the other Holds. It was the young Lord Holder and a small conclave of his close followers. It would remain this way - the most adventurous of people and their wives and families populating a small Illuay Hold and exploring the lands.
But there was a problem. It was three turns until the dreaded Thread was due again. Illuay had no protection and neither did the much younger, much smaller Vivaste Hold where a Metal Craft was set up near the hills and the caves. It was only three turns old at that time verses the twenty of Illuay.
The now not so young Lord of Illuay, however, knew a young Goldrider who had Impressed at the nearby Southern Weyr. She was impetuous, power hungry and very charismatic. She and two small wings would find a place, with the help of an older bronze rider, to call a Weyr and they would settle there. They spent the next three turns preparing for Threadfall. Another young gold was born with two turns before Threadfall.Tthe other Weyrs were not fond of our young Weyr. They did their best to keep transfers from going there... That is until they had some trouble makers they could send their way. And an eventful Tenth Pass it has been so far.
Both Holds and Weyrs lost people. It would be in their third time to face thread that a very large loss was felt as their only adult queen was struck by thread which strayed beyond the upper wings and hit her. She and her rider were lost to between. She left only the young female behind. It was about this time, however, that a rebellious faction of one of the larger Weyrs was sent to them. Among them the ringleader - a queenrider. What better way to get rid of what causes you trouble than to send it to those you don't like.
These dragons and riders boasted experience - as did their queenrider. Though few wanted to give her the chance at it do to her crimes in the Norh, which were not specified. Only a handful. Not enough to truly help. The young gold is nearly old enough to fly now. And so is the traitor gold of the north. Both feel entitled to the position. The older for her experience, the younger as she has not committed crimes or wrongs and was born at Illuay itself. She knows it.
In Illuay Hold, the Holders are currently digging themselves into the land, making their Hold out of the rock and earth that surrounds them while Vivaste clears the forests near their hills and move into the beginnings of their tunnels. The Weyr is struggling and their is distent over the leadership. Currently, the former Weyrleader holds control as the young gold rider struggles to be seen as capable. As does the older queen rider. Three people all vying for control and perhaps a few others quietly planning to usurp them all. Will things change? Or will a queen still rule? And what about everything that is around them? There have been sightings of strange lizards, a few furry creatures without name and a... thing which takes to the skies at night and seems to have two sets of wings, but a firelizards body. What is out there? Certainly their are dangers as an unknown creature has been raiding the herds of Holders, even those protected by the caverns, and has even taken those on watch. The latest casualty was a full grown brown Wher who guarded Vivaste. No one knows what happened as no one saw the creature. Will we solve this mystery?
